my eldest son informed me last night that he was going to England (AKA: Blighty) mid Sept. Theres some people he knows there (I guess). He's hoping that he'll meet someone that can arrange for him to shoot a Longbow - preferably made of yew.
I am supposed to return to Blighty next June for the 80th of D-Day.(Already bin 5 yrs since I was last there...I imagine they've recovered by now)

Be safe and watch your six. Do not drink the water. The beer is hot and so are the women.

Bring back lots of books and toys.

Wish I could. Have not been to Normandy since 1979. Was a sad trip.

With my current heart issues I can not even drive. Normandy is a long walk.

When you are at Juno say a prayer for my family.

In Normandy & Brittany it used to be (hard) cider, not so much beer.
The area is famous for it.

If he's looking to shoot a traditional longbow there are several vintage archery clubs. Maybe do a search for them in the area he's going to & wangle an invite.
He might want to contact 'The Sealed Knot" too! They do a lot of English Civil War reenactments & I'm sure they could arrange something, given a little time.
Tongue

Don't shoot till you see the whites of their thighs. (Unofficial motto of the Royal Air Force)

You must have a strong middle finger to pluck a arrow with a bow.

I have a 50# pull Bear recurve and I can't imagine how strong those British longbow  archers were back in the day. I've watched a few YouTube videos on them and if I remember correctly draw weight was well north of 100#!
